Allright everyone. The time has come to talk about some effective employee training techniques. This blog have spent more time than I care to recall talking over and over about organizational learning models, gamficiation, knowledge management and the whole shebang, so we won’t even touch those today, mostly. We’re going to talk about individual and model-independent techniques we can integrate into any model of training we choose, to see effective and lasting results.
A model doesn’t even have to be drafted, these can just be used as a model all their own, if you want to hack your way through training. Effective employee training techniques like these are great go to strategies for those who had the role of sage teacher thrust upon them without any desire whatsoever. More relevant employee training manual information is available to read.
This is most of us, so this is clearly something to pay close attention to, isn’t it? So, let’s go over some things we can do to make this the most effective. Remember, these tips can be modified to fit your situation, and are independent of the learning framework, if any, you have chosen to use.
Effective Employee Training Techniques and More
Regarding Employee training techniques, First, demonstrations are powerful. In lieu of lectures and traditional classroom approaches, casual demonstrations, allowing hands on experience (even failures while doing so are just fine) is a bonus as well. Seeing the knowledge applied, while it is explained, causes full synapses to form in the brain, using visual, logical situational and abstract informative input to be absorbed in a real world paradigm that’s solid like actual memories.
This does not mean that it is enough to instill the knowledge though, so discussion is important as well. Discussion allows for confusion to be clarified, expounding on topics to be pursued, and for all of the gaps to be filled in. Discussion should have you as the instructor moderating, but also encourage chatter between individuals. I recommend avoiding a round table approach and make this a light atmosphere with multiple conversations and everyone approachable. Do this over snacks or something, it will make this an amicable process and an effective one.
Some would recommend lectures, but I recommend only this, if you want to take the extra effort. Have lecture times, but only cover material that is covered via demonstration and discussion, in the lecture format. Make this an option for the odd individuals who are actually inclined to this learning environment. If your group is large, you may have one or two.
Also, computer-based training is a good idea. You can use learning software like WalkMe to test, practice and gage metrics of your employees’ competence in the material. It’s also useful for the controlled demonstrations as well.
Now, touching a little bit on gamification loosely, a good thing to incorporate in workshops and group activities is role playing, where different scenarios related to the training are simulated, with some gamification flair. These can be made fun, and be made into powerful developmental aids.
Observing case studies made by other companies can also provide comparison and some standard tried approaches with known results for you to turn to as well, so do read case studies. They’re for informing those who need them, not just being scientifically apologistic of something.
These are just some of the effective and benefits of employee training techniques out there. There are more, so if you’re interested, be sure to read some of the other pieces this blog has put out on those as well.
