With that said, here are 4 articles from this week: mLearnCon 2013 Opens in San Jose (Learning Solutions Magazine) – A comprehensive summary of all the happenings, keynotes, sessions and news and analysis from one of the year’s biggest conferences on all things mobile learning. They Don’t Know What Learning Is – (Training Journal) – Paul Matthews writes that “one of the most important things you can teach people is what learning is, and that everyone is superb at the three main forms of ‘informal learning’: experiential learning, social learning and observational learning.” I agree with Paul, and I recommend reading his post. Surge Continues in Learning & Development Spending – (Accounting Web) – Bersin by Deloitte, a leading provider of research-based membership programs in human resources, talent, and learning, found that overall spending on training rose 12 percent on average in 2012 – a sign that amidst greater financial stability, organizations are focused on reskilling their workforces. ‘Training’ is Making a Comeback – (Donal Taylor’s blog) – Donald writes that while the label “training” had seen a number of years of reduced usage, in favor of the phrase “learning & development,” it is now coming back.  He argues that “the alternative of ‘learning and development’ still doesn’t really adequately describe what we do. At best it describes the results of what we do.” Very interesting read. Badges of Honor – (E-Learning Provocateur blog) – Ryan Tracey examines Modzilla’s ‘Open Badges’ and gamification’s value in training.  It’s becomes more and more common these days – read up!
